On the Funnies

A little Monty Python humour to start of this post. These old shows are really a joy to watch, especially the Python gang with their irreverent, but clever sense of humour.

That they knew and they did well, the Pythons. I love their brand of humour with the mix of the physical and intellectual comedy. Certainly one of the best in my books, not sure about everyone else on that point though.

(And with that, I just provided a contradiction to the point which I am trying to make, that humour is a universal language. Right, whilst I get my foot out of my mouth, let the thoughts continue to flow.)

The beauty of humour, is it exists on so many different levels. The physical, the tone, the context. The ebst part about humours is its status as a universal language. It’s simple, people like to laugh and a good joke is always appreciated. Personally, I’ve not seen a humourless human yet.

(Yes, I’m getting some headway here!)

Apart from the contextual jokes, the physical comedy is most certainly appreciated by most, if not all of us. Moreover, humour has developed regardless of the culture or geography. It is part of human anture to laugh, to want to tell jokes and to have fun.

With that common inclination, humour links and bonds the race together.

What is laughter? To me, laughter is an expression of the human soul, and the ability that we have to create. Some people say that life is a bitter bitter pill to swallow, and others say that life is hard enough. They have their point of view, and life could be indeed.

Without laughter, I can imagine life would be very boring indeed. We need to have fun, and learn to enjoy this precious gift of life. The funnies, sustain us through thetough times, giving us a relief from the harshness, and a spark that rekindles the light of hope. We need to be serious in what we set out to do, and we have to enjoy it.

I think the world is a little too serious for its own good sometimes, and it affects everyone else. You and I, being told by everyone to keep a grave disposition and a straight face. There’s an irrepressible expectation on people to produce results, and remembers this everyone, laughing whilst in the pursuit of anything means you’re not doing anything productive.

Laughter is free energy is being wasted on fun when it could have been channeled into work!

Or so the times seem to whisper to us, or rather, make it a point to reiterate at any possible opportunity. I want to have fun and I wnt to be able to smile and laugh when I go about life! No one can seriously expect the whole race, that thats joy in fun and humour to be perfectly boring and clinic. That is a preposterous preposition and to contemplate it is quite a joke.

To have fun, not to get caught up in the tide of things and forget about laughing and enjoying the times. We might start of this life with a cry, but I think we certainly can choose to end it with a good old laugh.

That is the choice we have, the freedom to make it as cheerful and enjoyable as we can even till the end. Death might be the final word, but hey, who says it has to be a sad occassion? Who’s the authority here to claim that Death kills humour?

You know, if I were to die, I think the perfect send-off would be like Graham Chapman’s. Sad eulogies are so depressive, a gathering of people who can laugh and smile together is so much more appealing. Yes, even tough it might be a funeral.
